  Chapter 1

  Madison

The best way to heal a broken heart is vodka. Vodka doesn’t lie to you. Sure, if you drink a lot, you feel like shit the next day, but at least you know you’ll feel like shit. Whereas a breakup comes out of nowhere, and the broken heart blindsides you, causing your head to spin.

“You seriously cannot still be thinking of him!”

I wrap my fingers around the shot glass, debating if I should take this shot. It’ll be a record for me if I do. “This will be my sixth shot.” I’m not too drunk, though, but for sure tipsy.

“For what reason? It’s been weeks since you guys broke up.”

I lift my finger in the air. “Correction. It’s been weeks since he broke up with me for no reason. Just said I wasn’t good enough for him anymore and that he didn’t love me.” Lifting the shot glass to my lips, I tip my head back and take it without gasping or making a face. “Thirteen months. Thirteen motherfucking months. He told me he was going to marry me, and we’d have the best life.”

“Okay. New plan. About an hour ago, five insanely hot guys walked in, and one has been looking at you.”

“Kaylee,” I whine at my best friend. “Don’t do me any favors. Let me drown my sorrows for one freaking night.”

I think about the past thirteen months and nothing makes sense. How do you go from extremely happy and in love to being told you’re not good enough? The tears are building, and I’m doing everything I can to keep them at bay. I’ve wasted so many tears on that asshole.

“Truth or dare,” Kaylee says. “Pick.”

“We’re not in high school anymore.”

  “Just amuse me.”

  “Fine. Dare.”

Kaylee smirks and picks up her glass to take a drink before telling me what my dare is. “Go up to Tall, Dark, and Sexy on the other side of the bar and order a round.”

/>   This is dumb. Then again, this is Chicago, so I most likely won’t ever see Tall, Dark, and Sexy again. What do I have to lose? I take her drink and finish it, needing all the liquid courage I can get, and make my way over to him. My outfit has been turning heads tonight, so I know there’s a good chance I’ll get his attention. Mr. Sexy as Sin looks my way, and I send him a smile, letting him know I have my eyes on him.

“Hi.” I sit down on the empty stool next to him, crossing my legs and leaning in a little closer. Before I say anything else, I allow myself a moment to drink in how gorgeous he is and softly gasp when his fingers brush over my arm. His dark brown eyes are hooded with dark eyebrows and long thick lashes. My eyes trail down to his lips as they curl up in a lopsided smile.

“Here you go, boss.” The bartender slides five shots over to him.

“And a shot for her as well.”

  “You got it.”

He turns to me and gives me that panty-dropping smile with those sexy full lips. “This is surprising.”

  “What is?”

He chuckles. “I had this elaborate plan to come over to you with one of my friends. I noticed you as soon as I walked in.”

“Then why didn’t you come over when you noticed me?” My tone turns teasing, and his lips curl up again.

He steps closer to me, and I take in his amazing scent. It’s a mixture of mint and expensive cologne. “Because a man needs to have a solid plan when he approaches a beautiful, confidant woman like yourself.” His smile emphasizes a massive dimple in each cheek, causing me to swoon.

“You have a way with words.”

He shrugs. “What brings you out tonight? I can’t imagine you being single, beautiful.”

There’s something alluring about a stranger. It’s the idea you’ll never see them again, so why not open up to them? This man, whoever he is, hints he’s a successful businessman with his silver Rolex watch, crisp black suit, and dark blue tie. His shoes are a shiny black, and the suit looks tailored because it fits him perfectly. The way he carries himself with conviction and authority alludes to him being a CEO.

“Newly single and ready to mingle.”

“Whoever your ex-boyfriend is, I’ll be sure to thank him. He didn’t see what he had, and he let you go. But I’m glad he did. Now, I get a chance.”

“Maybe. For now, let’s give each other fake names, and if we meet again, then I’ll definitely consider giving you a chance. I’m Sophia.”

  “Cal.”

The way Cal looks at me boosts my confidence. Hot women are in abundance here tonight, but I haven’t seen him look at anyone else. In a crowded bar, he makes it seem as though we’re the only ones here.

“So, Cal, you said you’re here with your friends?”

  “I am.”

  “Celebrating?”

“Something like that.” He smiles again. God, his smile is sexy. “Don’t worry about my friends. They know I wanted to get your attention, and now that I have it, they’ll leave us alone.”

“Why don’t we grab a booth? Somewhere a little quieter where we can talk?”

Cal takes my hand, helping me down from my stool, and pulls me close to his very tall frame. He has to be at least six-foot-two. Possibly taller. Even with my three-inch heels, I’m barely reaching his shoulders.

We find an empty booth nearby. I completely forgot about Kaylee and feel like the world’s worst friend. As soon as we sit down, I pull out my phone to send her a text.

  Madison: I’m so sorry!

Kaylee: Don’t be! Watching you two was HOT. Plus, Galen’s here now. Don’t worry about me! Get to know that sexy man. Don’t do anything I’d do.

  Madison: Shut up!

Immediately, I blush. I’ve never had a one-night stand. At the young age of twenty-two, I can count how many men I’ve slept with on one hand.

I didn’t have a boyfriend until my freshman year in college, and it was an okay relationship. We broke up after three months, and when I met someone else, the relationship was better. He was attentive, sweet, and I thought I’d fallen in love. One night, on our one-year anniversary, I lost my virginity to him. After that, things went from good to amazing. He taught me how to embrace my sexuality. I transformed from a nun to a sex kitten. He ended up with a job offer he couldn’t refuse, and I wasn’t prepared to leave college, we broke up. It sucked. We tried staying in touch but being in different countries made things harder.

  And then I met him.

The one who took my breath away, then broke my heart without a warning.

It was a forbidden relationship. We couldn’t be like other couples who went out on dates and were seen together. If people got wind of our relationship, he’d lose his job, and who knows what’d happen to me.

Pushing the past out of my head, I give Cal my full attention. Tonight, I’m not going to be Madison Smith. I’m Sophia, with no last name, and Sophia likes to live dangerously. For one night, I’m going to do something I haven’t ever done.

  “Do you live nearby?”

His brows kink and it seems I’ve rendered him speechless for a moment. “I have a room at the Waldorf.”

Without thinking, I get out of the booth and take his hand. We make our way through the bar, and I ignore the looks from Kaylee and Galen.

  Tonight, I’m Sophia.

The cab ride to the Waldorf is faster than I imagined. I keep telling myself to do this and let go. After Cal pays the cabbie, he opens the door for me and takes my hand. Before we walk into the hotel, he turns me to face him, my chest touching his.

“I’m game for whatever you want, Sophia. You set the pace, and I’ll follow you.”

“I think you know what I want.”

He grins again. “If it involves being between your legs and not stopping until your body gives out, then yes, I’m thinking the same thing.”

His bluntness should be a turnoff, and it should offend me. And normally, it would, but not now and not tonight.

  “Lead the way.”

His room’s on the top floor, and when we walk in, I turn around and watch him shut and lock the door. The way he’s moving toward me has me frozen in one spot. His soft lips brush against my cheek to my ear.

  “Whatever you want.”

I shudder. “Before we get there, I want you to know I’ve never done this before. I mean, I’m not a virgin, but I’m not that experienced either.”

A growl deep in his throat comes out, and his lips glide across my cheek until it touches mine. “It doesn't matter if you are or not, baby. What I have planned I'm glad no man has taken you there before.”

“You set the pace because I don’t know if I’ll do it right. Please.”

I want him to take me, and I don’t care if he’s gentle. He guides my chin so we’re looking at one another and brings our lips together for the most passionate kiss I’ve ever had in my life. His tongue sweeps into my mouth and meets mine with desperation and skill. I’m moaning into his mouth, gripping his muscular biceps and pulling myself closer to him. I need to feel him on me and in me.

His lips leave mine and trail down to my neck. I move my head to the side, giving him access, and shudder as he kisses over the sensitive area on my neck. It feels so good. I close my eyes and feel him. We’re only kissing, and my body is already screaming for more. Begging for him to lay me down on the bed and turn me inside out with pleasure.

“I want more,” I whisper, gripping him harder. This insane boldness overcomes me, giving me the courage to take his hand and bring it to my aching pussy. “Touch me and you’ll see how badly I want more.”

“Fuck, baby.” He growls into my neck, while his hand drifts up my thighs to my aching pussy. His fingers are rubbing me through my panties and it's taking everything in me to not scream aloud. “You’re drenched. So fucking wet for me.”

“Yes,” I pant and pray he’ll give me more pleasure. Tonight, it’s all about us.

Our tongues meet again, and he’s giving me what I want when his fin
ger pushes over my panties, and I feel his strong fingers opening me and playing with my clit. I’m moaning so loudly, and it prompts him to add more pressure. His desire is against my stomach. I need more, and I know he does too, so I maneuver us until I’m lying on the bed, and he’s on top of me.

Cal removes his fingers and gets up. His dark eyes are full of heated desire. “I don’t want you to come on my fingers. When you come, and you will, you’re coming on my cock.”

  “Okay.”

I watch him strip out of his clothes. When his boxer briefs are gone, and his hard cock is free, I let out another moan. He’s huge and thick. Fuck. I sit up on the bed and touch him, gripping his cock with my hand, and watch his head fall back. With one hand on his dick, I get up from the bed and kiss his bare chest.

  “Take off my dress.”

  “With pleasure.”

As soon as we’re both naked, he steps back and stares at me. I don’t feel embarrassed or insecure. I take care of my body, and from the look he’s giving me, he loves how I look.

“Enough. No more games. I’m taking you now.” I watch Cal pull out a condom and slide it over his enlarged dick. “If it hurts, you need to tell me.”
